Backend Software Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about creating elegant and robust infrastructure to handle a wide variety of workloads. This opportunity requires hands-on experience in backend engineering spanning Python, AWS, microservice design & development, and API design.You will be responsible for implementing product features, business logic, and cloud infrastructure that power our latest home awareness and security product, HomeAware.

Our backend team owns mission-critical aspects of a rapidly growing product. You will have an incredible amount of impact on the current state and future direction of our cloud infrastructure, with visibility throughout the organization and a significant opportunity to take ownership and lead other team members. Standard Salary Range: $100k - $150k Annually plus equity

Basic Requirements:

• 3+ years of software engineering experience
• Fluency in Python
• Familiarity with basic AWS Services
• Understanding of REST APIs and general API design
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure architectural principles
• Hands-on experience developing and tuning server-side applications
• Solid understanding of Database technologies such as SQL, pgSQL, and relational database schema design
• Experience with Git and contributing to CI/CD workflows
• English language proficiency

Preferred Requirements:

• Primary work location in Chicago, IL highly preferred
• 5+ years of software engineering experience in a team environment contributing to a shared codebase
• Ability to take a high-level feature idea and propose an architecture and solution and then implement it without a large amount of oversight
• Experience delivering and owning web-scale data and infrastructure systems in production
• Experience with cost-optimizing backend infrastructure
• Expert-level knowledge of Python and latest features
• Experience building applications in Go
• Extensive experience with Docker
• Experience building and deploying Machine Learning workflows in production
• Extensive experience designing, developing, and tuning server-side applications, including in a cloud-based environment with high availability standards
• Understanding of multiple NOSQL database options in addition to relational databases, and experience making decisions on which to use for various use cases
• Familiarity with advanced, niche AWS services and database products
• Experience leading and mentoring other Software Engineers (especially Backend Software Engineers and infrastructure engineers)
• Experience implementing best practices for backend software development projects in a team environment (code reviews, style guides, unit and E2E test frameworks, etc)

• Actively participate in the design of backend features
• Collaborate on architecture definitions, always thinking of solutions that are scalable and secure
• Develop quality code, with emphasis on correctness of the implementation
• Implement and document new features and capabilities for Ubiety’s backend infrastructure
• Contribute ideas for what we should be building next to support our product, business, and infrastructure scalability goals
• Contribute towards evolving our architecture
• Review teammates’ code, and respond to teammates’ feedback on your code
• Mentor other team member
